In Which Erin Turns Spartan Whilst Racing

Have I mentioned that my daughters are a tad, um, badass? Today Erin and her husband Shawn tackle the Spartan Race. Somewhere out there in the mud puddle my friends Todd Love, Luke Sliwinksi, and Joel Weber also will be slogging the obstacles - around nine miles uphill at a ski resort. Race on, O Muddy Ones! Race On! Oh, and if you drop by to show me your rips, don't forget to wipe your feet...

I like the makeup it adds an interesting touch. What is interesting as well is I used to do this stuff in the Army but not particularly for fun. Maybe they should all just become Rangers and do it full time? I had one Sergeant who worked for me and I was working these ridiculous hours in the hot suite and he never complained. I asked him why and he said" Sir, it is warm and dry. I fully understand that so can understand doing this stuff for fun rather than full time. My team and I used to compete (and we even won once) the International Military Patrol competition which was like a full day of this but with land nav as well and firing unfamiliar weapons. The points were usually 20 km apart and each point had some crazy obstacle/task. Now that was a lot of fun. I just looked on line and it is still being run more or less but it now seems to encompass a lot more than back in the 80's. Even more fun now!

Here is this year's competition in Riga, Latvia. It doesn't look too different than back in my day.
